Yksityiskohdat

1 VIDEO (The T.A.M.I. Show): Compared with the previous DVD, this MPEG-4 AVC 1080p 1.78:1 black and white video is a definite improvement with more details and sharper contrasts. The black level is decent. (3.0/5)
VIDEO (The Big T.N.T. Show): This video is making its video debut. This black and white video is also pleasing, similar to above. (3.0/5)
2 AUDIO (The T.A.M.I. Show & the Big T.N.T. Show): The most significant improvement is in the audio, where DTS-HD 2.0 Master Audio is simply amazing, especially when one considers that this was a live concert setting filmed in 1964 and 1966 The vocals are clear displaying all the high notes effortlessly. The backing instruments are also well recorded, despite of the loud screaming. Overall, the audio presentation is much less harsh than the previous DVD’s Dolby Digital. Thank you, Shout Factory! The Big T.N.T. Show’s audio is similar to the T.A.M.I. Show. (5/5).
3 The 36-page booklet, although smaller in size to fit the smaller blu-ray case, is simply wonderful. The essay for the T.A.M.I. Show was carried over from the larger size booklet in the DVD, with minor updates. There is a new essay on the Big T.N.T. Show by Don Waller written in August 2016. Of course there are additional pictures. Good job!
4 The Bonus Features for the T.A.M.I. Show were the similar as the DVD. There are new Bonus Features for The Big T.N.T. Show, including new interviews with Petula Clark, Henry Diltz and John Sebastian.

The energy and excitement of some of music's greatest grooves!

The unmistakable sounds of a generation explode onto the screen with two of the greatest concert films of the rock n' roll revolution: T.A.M.I. Show and The Big T.N.T. Show. Filmed just eight months after The Beatles appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, 1964's T.A.M.I. Show introduced rock 'n' soul youth culture to America as never before. Its 1966 follow-up The Big T.N.T. Show built on its predecessor's legacy as a showcase for the hottest hit-makers in music. Collectively, the two films are an incredible time capsule of American popular culture in the 1960s, and representative of the gold standard for concert films. This Collector's Edition is a double-barreled blast of the sights and the sounds of music's greatest eras, and features performances by future Rock and Roll Hall of Famers The Rolling Stones, James Brown, Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson And The Miracles, Bo Diddley, The Supremes, Ike and Tina Turner, The Ronettes, The Byrds, Ray Charles, and many other American and British Invasion hitmakers in their prime!

Why We Love It  "These sensational mid-1960s all-star rock revues, preserved on video before a live audience, are packed with great acts, including the Beach Boys, Bo Diddley, Marvin Gaye, the Ronettes, the Supremes and James Brown, who delivers a remarkable performance." The New York Times

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Next to my “Star Wars The Force Awakens 3D”, I consider this release, together with the recent “8 Days A Week” blu-ray by the Beatles, one of the best Christmas presents for 2016. Thanks to all the film/audio restoration people at Shout Factory for this fantastic upgrade and the inclusion of the “The Big T.N.T. Show” too. This set, with original footage by the original artists at their prime, receives my highest recommendation.  "Review from the net"
